New York — At Albany, Georgia, before dawn a tornado killed at least 50 persons and injured at least 500, of whom 250 are in a critical condition. It also caused property damage to the extent of 5 million dollars, wrecking most of the business buildings and several hundred homes.

The single hospital and four emergency stations are overflowing, and Red Cross crews are en route to the scene.
